Buying a Used Piano: An Inspection Checklist

Check the pinblock and tuning pin tightness, look for soundboard cracks and loose ribs, inspect bridge pins for cracking, and play every note for evenness and repetition.

Ask for the serial number to date the piano, ask when it was last tuned, and budget for a pitch raise plus regulation on almost any instrument that has been sitting. A free piano is rarely free.
