Caring for a New Piano in Its First Year
Why new instruments need extra tunings and how to settle them in.
New strings stretch and new felt compresses. Expect three to four tunings in the first year rather than two, and do not read early pitch drop as a defect.
Choose a room with stable temperature away from exterior doors, play the instrument regularly so the action settles evenly, and schedule the first tuning about a month after delivery.
