Humidity and Your Piano in North Texas

Wood absorbs and releases moisture with the air around it. A soundboard swells in a humid spring, raising string tension and pitch, then shrinks in a dry summer and drops it again.

Aim for 40 to 45 percent relative humidity. Keep the piano away from exterior walls, vents and direct sun, run a room humidifier or a dedicated in-piano system, and put a cheap hygrometer on the lid so you can see what is actually happening.
